Goa Launches AI Translation Platform for Konkani

Goa's IT department has partnered with the central government's *Digital India BHASHINI Division* to launch AI-powered multilingual governance across the state. The initiative, unveiled at a mandatory workshop on July 17, 2026, aims to dismantle language barriers that have historically excluded non-English speakers from digital services.

The *BHASHINI* platform offers translation, transcription, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and video translation capabilities. Given Konkani's status as Goa's official language, the workshop emphasized building a localized digital ecosystem through systematic data collection, glossary creation, and model validation to capture diverse regional accents.

All state departments, PSUs, and autonomous bodies were mandated to participate in training covering technical demonstrations, use case mapping, and citizen query resolution systems. The long-term vision is a "voice-first" governance model allowing citizens to interact with government portals entirely in Konkani, bridging the digital divide and making public services accessible to every resident regardless of literacy level.
