Marathi Activists in Canacona Demand Official Language Status for Marathi

The Goan EveryDay

Incredible Goa

The Marathi Rajbhasha Nirdhar Samiti's Canacona branch organized a significant demonstration near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue at Kadamba Bus-stand complex in Chaudi, demanding official language recognition for Marathi. The protest was moderated by Hindavi Swaraj Sanghatan's Canacona chief Dilkush Shet and commenced with the traditional garlanding of the historic statue.

Multiple community leaders and activists participated, including youth activists, senior Sangh members, Bajrang Dal leaders, and retired educators. Speakers unanimously emphasized their commitment to the cause, framing the demand as a fight against the injustice being done to Marathi. The participants expressed determination to continue their struggle until Marathi receives official language status in the state.

This protest reflects growing concerns within the Marathi-speaking community about linguistic representation and cultural recognition in Goa's administrative framework.
