The Umar Pulavar Tamil Language Centre (UPTLC), a landmark institution for over four decades, will move to 1 Victoria Lane in January 2027 following the expiration of its Beatty Road tenancy in December 2026.
The new campus promises significant upgrades, including larger classrooms designed for hands-on, tech-enabled learning and a sheltered court for traditional sports such as kabaddi. Iconic elements like the Thiruvalluvar statue will be preserved and relocated.
Located closer to the Bugis and Jalan Besar MRT stations, the new site enhances accessibility while positioning UPTLC near the Indian Heritage Centre and other cultural partners. The relocation will enable the centre to accommodate more students and explore innovative teaching tools including artificial intelligence.
Minister Dinesh Vasu Dash emphasized that the move strengthens UPTLC's mission to promote Tamil language and culture. All classes will continue normally at Beatty Road until the 2027 move. Founded in 1982, UPTLC will continue organizing cultural programmes and providing professional development for teachers in its new home.
