Enterprise AI company Cohere has introduced *Tiny Aya*, a new family of open-weight multilingual models designed to democratize AI access across linguistic barriers. Unveiled at the India AI Summit, these models support over 70 languages and can operate on everyday devices without requiring internet connectivity.
The initiative places particular emphasis on South Asian languages, with support for Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, Tamil, Telugu, and Marathi. The base model contains 3.35 billion parameters, while regional variants include *TinyAya-Fire* specifically tailored for South Asian languages, alongside *TinyAya-Earth* for African languages and *TinyAya-Water* for Asia Pacific and Europe.
The models are available for download on platforms like HuggingFace, Kaggle, and Ollama, enabling local deployment. This makes them particularly valuable for offline translation services and linguistic research in diverse regions like India.
The launch comes as Cohere demonstrates strong financial performance, ending 2025 with $240 million in annual recurring revenue and 50% quarter-over-quarter growth, with CEO Aidan Gomez indicating plans for a public offering.
