In a moment of pride for Odisha on Republic Day eve, four distinguished individuals from the state have been selected for the prestigious Padma Shri award for 2026, as announced by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The honorees include Charan Hembram and Mahendra Kumar Mishra in the Literature and Education category, while Sarat Kumar Patra and Simanchal Patro have been recognized for their contributions to Art.
These awards highlight Odisha's significant role in enriching India's literary landscape, advancing education, and preserving the state's folk and traditional art forms that represent the essence of Odia cultural heritage.
The recipients are part of a larger cohort of 131 Padma awardees across all three categories - Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has extended his congratulations to the honorees for this national recognition.
