Guru Nanak Dev University organized a special academic seminar focusing on *Medieval Punjabi Literature: Dimensions and Relevance*, reinforcing its dedication to the Punjabi language. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karamjeet Singh emphasized the university's continued efforts toward promoting Punjabi as a mother tongue.
The seminar, jointly organized by the School of Punjabi Studies, the Ministry of Culture, and Sahitya Akademi, explored the foundations of medieval Punjabi literature, including Gurmat, Sufi, Qissa, and heroic poetry. Dr. Ravel Singh of Sahitya Akademi highlighted how this literature forms the basis of contemporary cultural consciousness.
Chief guest Madhav Kaushik noted Punjabi literature's distinct identity within Indian literature, emphasizing its promotion of humanism and global peace. Prof. Manmohan Singh delivered the keynote address, analyzing the philosophical depth of medieval Punjabi literature and its role in addressing social inequalities. The event underscored the enduring relevance of Punjabi's literary traditions in modern times.
