Bodhan AI, the Centre of Excellence in AI for Education incubated at IIT Madras, has partnered with *AI4Bharat* to launch a suite of tools designed to make education accessible in Indian languages. The initiative addresses a simple but persistent gap: the assumption that meaningful learning must happen in English.
At its core are four foundational AI models covering automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech, machine translation and optical character recognition, supporting between 22 and 27 Indian languages depending on the tool. These are being released as open-weight *Digital Public Goods* and through hosted APIs on sovereign infrastructure.
Built on this foundation are two applications: a *Student Tutor Bot* for Classes 6 to 12, aligned with *NCERT* and *SCERT* curricula, allowing students to learn through text or voice in 22 Indian languages; and a *Teacher Assistant Bot* that helps create lesson plans, worksheets and assessments, while keeping teachers firmly in control of the final output.
Together, these tools form part of the *Bharat EduAI Stack*, envisioned as sovereign digital infrastructure for India's education system.
