Shri G S Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS) in Indore has introduced a Hindi-medium BTech programme in civil engineering starting the 2026-27 academic session, reserving 30 seats for the batch, of which about 20 are already filled. Students in the programme will also be eligible for a Rs 2 lakh incentive from the Madhya Pradesh government in their final year.
The initiative, aligned with the *National Education Policy*, aims to help students who studied in Hindi medium until Class 12 but struggled after switching to English-medium engineering education, sometimes leading them to drop out. Department head Sunil Ajmera said the course "has begun in Hindi so that students can study and appear for examinations in their mother tongue."
Faculty spent four years translating technical material into Hindi and training teachers to deliver lessons in the language. Importantly, the institute is not treating Hindi and English as mutually exclusive, students will also receive English-language training to meet the demands of higher education and future employment.
