The Postgraduate Punjabi Department of Lyallpur Khalsa College celebrated its platinum jubilee on March 19-20, marking 75 years since its establishment in 1950. The two-day event featured activities dedicated to Punjabi language, literature, and culture.
Punjab Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar, the chief guest, emphasized the urgent need for collective efforts to promote Punjabi in the contemporary era. He praised the department's 75-year contribution to propagating Punjabi language and culture, noting its distinguished scholars, writers, and artists recognized worldwide.
Principal Dr Rashpal Singh Sandhu highlighted that the department pioneered MA Punjabi classes in 1950 and has produced personalities who achieved special recognition in Punjabi literature. Students presented diverse performances including street plays, traditional comedy skits, folk songs, and giddha. A theatrical performance of *Tiktan Do Lai Lai*, directed by Narinder Sanghi with Punjab Kala Parishad, featured film actors Hardeep Gill and Anita Devgan. The event also included a heritage village display and book exhibition with 12 publishers.
