Mandya is set to receive a dedicated Kannada Bhavan worth Rs 5.5 crore, commemorating the successful 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana held in December 2024. The foundation stone ceremony is scheduled for January 30 at the Sir M Visvesvaraya Indoor Stadium premises.
The project will be funded through Rs 2.5 crore saved from the literary festival and Rs 3 crore sanctioned under the *chief minister's infrastructure development scheme*. The ceremony will be attended by Adichunchanagiri mutt seer Nirmalanandanatha Swami, Agriculture Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy, and various literary figures.
The literary festival celebrated Kannada language, literature, and cultural heritage, with local representatives and writers advocating for a permanent cultural center following the event's success.
However, the project has sparked disappointment among sportspersons, as land previously reserved for sports development has been reallocated for the Kannada Bhavan construction.
