Senior Marathi language activist G. R. Dhavalikar has issued a pointed warning to the Goa government, stating that failure to grant Marathi co-state language status alongside Konkani by December could result in electoral repercussions. Speaking at the Sarvadhara Marathi Sneha Melava in Valpoi, Dhavalikar emphasized that Marathi has historically played a crucial role in Goa's administration and education, even during Portuguese rule, yet lacks adequate official recognition.

Dhavalikar argued that constitutional provisions allow languages used in governance to receive official status, describing Goa's linguistic identity as "Konkani as a spoken language and Marathi as a language of administration." He called for greater involvement from teachers and literary figures in promoting Marathi and protecting Marathi-medium schools, expressing concern over declining participation.

The activist recalled past political commitments, including support from former Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and BJP conventions, urging current Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to act promptly. Other speakers at the event highlighted the decline in Marathi-medium education and suggested parental awareness campaigns as a solution.
