The Punjabi Film and Television Association (PAFTA) hosted its Cine Award 2006 ceremony at CGC University Mohali, celebrating World Punjabi Cinema Day with hundreds of cinema workers in attendance. General Secretary Binnu Dhillon described Punjabi cinema as *"our family"*, while President Ammy Virk emphasized that honoring cinema workers honors the mother tongue itself.

Padma Shri Nirmal Rishi, the organization's patron, stressed the importance of preserving language and culture through cinema for future generations. The event featured awards across multiple departments, with recipients including Gippy Grewal, Tanya, Dev Kharod, and the film *Guru Nanak Jahaj*, among others. Cultural performances included Sufi singer Kanwar Grewal and Guinness World Record holders Shaan-e-Bhangra.

Chairman Guggu Gill affirmed the organization's commitment to annual programs, highlighting how Punjabi cinema has provided identity and respect to the community. The event also featured the trailer release of the film *Khushkhabari*.
