Raknno Weekly Announces 2026 Konkani Literary Awards

Raknno, the Konkani-English bilingual weekly published from Mangaluru since 1938, has announced its Annual Literary Awards for 2026, continuing a three-year-old tradition of recognising contributions to Konkani literature.

This year, Dr Jerry Niddodi has been named Best Author of the Year, while *Angelorcho Ange*, the parish magazine of Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, Nagori, has been chosen as the Best Parish Magazine. The recipients were selected through a structured process involving a call for entries and review by a dedicated Scrutiny Committee.

The awards will be conferred by the Bishop of Mangaluru, Most Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, at a ceremony scheduled for September 6, 2026, at Bejai Church Hall. Mr Joachim Stany Alvares, President of the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy, will attend as chief guest, underscoring the event's significance for the wider Konkani literary community.

Notably, the programme will extend beyond the awards themselves, with Rev. Valerian Fernandes, former Editor of Raknno, conducting a dedicated training session on the Konkani language, reflecting the publication's broader commitment to language preservation and literary growth within the Diocese of Mangaluru.
