The Sahitya Akademi announced its 2025 awards on March 16, recognizing outstanding literary contributions across 24 Indian languages. Former diplomat Navtej Sarna received the English award for *Crimson Spring*, a novel centered on the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Sarna, who served as India's ambassador to the United States and High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, retired in 2018 to pursue writing full-time.

Veteran Hindi writer Mamta Kalia, 85, was honored for *Jeete Jee Allahabad*, a literary memoir about the city now known as Prayagraj. The Malayalam award went to N. Prabhakaran for *Maayaamanushyar*, exploring themes of human compassion.

The 24 awards span diverse genres including poetry, novels, short stories, essays, literary criticism, autobiography, and memoirs. Among the winners are eight poetry collections, four novels, six short story collections, two essay volumes, one work of literary criticism, one autobiography, and two memoirs. Other notable recipients include Prasun Bandyopadhyay for Bengali poetry, Yogesh Vaidya for Gujarati poetry, and Nandini Sidha Reddy for Telugu poetry.
