Central Sanskrit University has signed an MoU with Thailand's Silpakorn University to establish a Foreign Study Centre in Bangkok, transforming the existing Sanskrit Studies Centre into an overseas hub for Indian classical languages and knowledge systems.
The partnership will launch faculty and student exchanges, joint degree programmes, online courses, and collaborative research in Sanskrit, Pali, Hindi, Buddhist studies, Indian philosophy, and related fields. A key focus will be digitizing rare manuscripts in Sanskrit, Pali, and Prakrit to create accessible e-resources for global scholars.
The Indian Embassy in Thailand will support the initiative through scholarships, faculty assistance, and resource development. Vice Chancellor Srinivas Varakhedi described the centre as a bridge connecting India and Thailand's shared cultural and spiritual heritage, with potential to spread Sanskrit studies across Southeast Asia.
The initiative aims to give India's ancient knowledge traditions a stronger international presence while deepening educational ties between the two nations.
