Swiggy has integrated Sarvam AI's language models to allow users to place orders through voice commands in 11 Indian languages. The feature covers all three Swiggy services - Food Delivery, Instamart, and Dineout - enabling users to discover, select, and complete purchases through conversational AI.
Sarvam AI's models support Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, Marathi, and five other languages, trained specifically on Indian language data. The company claims this sets it apart from existing voice features that primarily operate in English or offer limited regional support.
The feature works in two ways: a phone-call-based interface requiring no app or internet connection, and through Indus, Sarvam's chat platform. Razorpay's UPI Reserve Pay handles payments within the same interface.
The integration particularly benefits users uncomfortable with English-language interfaces and those in smaller towns with strong regional language preferences. According to Swiggy CTO Madhusudhan Rao, the move represents meeting users "in the languages they speak."
