Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has released 55 scholarly volumes dedicated to India's classical languages, representing a significant effort to preserve and promote the nation's linguistic heritage. The publications span classical Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, and Odia, with particular attention to making ancient texts accessible through translations and scholarly research.
The Centre for Studies in Classical Odia unveiled 10 new books, including English and Hindi translations of important works like Madalapanji - a vital chronicle of Odisha's temple and royal history - and Rudrasudhanidhi, a philosophical text. These translations aim to bring Odisha's cultural and historical insights to non-Odia speakers and international audiences.
Minister Pradhan emphasized that this initiative reinforces Odia's classical language status, granted in 2014, and aligns with the National Education Policy 2020, which promotes multilingualism and classical language integration in education. The broader effort includes 41 literary works from Centres of Excellence across multiple classical languages, demonstrating the government's commitment to nurturing India's diverse linguistic traditions.
