Deepak Kumar, Secretary of Sanskrit Education for Uttarakhand, has initiated meetings with senior officials from multiple central government ministries to expand the use of Sanskrit, the state's second official language, across transport infrastructure.
In meetings held on Monday, Kumar requested V Umashankar, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, to include Sanskrit on signboards along all National Highways passing through Uttarakhand. He made similar requests to Satish Kumar, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, asking for Sanskrit signage at railway stations and on official nameplates throughout the state.
Kumar also met with Puneet Kansal, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, appreciating the existing Sanskrit signage at Dehradun Airport and requesting its extension to Pantnagar Airport and other aviation facilities in Uttarakhand.
With the Kumbh Mela scheduled for next year, Kumar urged that the Sanskrit signage initiative begin in Haridwar and Rishikesh. All proposals were supported by official communications from the state's Chief Secretary.
