The Punjabi Likhari Sabha Calgary organized its annual Punjabi-speaking competition for children at Whitehorn Community Hall, marking another milestone in the organization's 27-year history of promoting Punjabi language literacy.

The event featured four competition groups divided by grade level, with students from first through eighth grades participating. A total of 25 students competed in the first session alone, delivering presentations in Punjabi. Each group was evaluated by a panel of three judges, including educators and community members.

Winners included Harasis Kaur, Japuji Kaur Brar, and Nimrat Kaur in the first category, with similar recognition across all groups. All participants received medals for encouragement, while winners were awarded trophies.

Dr. Sukhdarshan Singh Chahal, a research officer from the language department, attended as a special guest and commended the Sabha's work in preserving Punjabi language skills among younger generations. The event also featured cultural performances, including Gidha dance and ghazals, alongside the competitions.

President Ranjit Singh announced the next meeting scheduled for July 18, 2026.
