The Haryana Board of School Education has implemented the three-language formula mandated by the *National Education Policy (NEP) 2020*, requiring Classes 9 and 10 students to study a third language alongside Hindi and English. Students must choose from Sanskrit, Urdu, or Punjabi as a compulsory subject.
The reform introduces a revised *best six* evaluation system, replacing the previous *best five* requirement. Students must now pass at least six out of seven subjects, including one optional paper. This change applies uniformly across all educational streams, including the Haryana Open School.
HBSE Chairman Dr. Pawan Kumar emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance linguistic proficiency and multilingual learning capabilities. While educators acknowledge the policy's potential to improve communication skills and career prospects, concerns remain about resource availability and trained staff for effective implementation.
Special provisions include allowing physically challenged students to study one language instead of two, and introducing Indian Sign Language as a subject for special schools, demonstrating the board's commitment to inclusive education.
