The Central University of Himachal Pradesh has taken a significant step toward making its academic curriculum bilingual. Vice-Chancellor Sat Prakash Bansal has instructed all departments and centres to prepare course syllabi in both Hindi and English, a move aimed at strengthening the presence of Indian languages in higher education.
The directive emerged from a meeting of the university's *Official Language Implementation Committee*, convened to assess compliance with the Central Government's *Official Language Policy* and evaluate the progress of Hindi on campus. Prof Bansal also urged faculty to speed up the completion of more than 50 Hindi-language textbooks currently being authored by university teachers, noting that these materials would support Hindi-medium teaching and learning.
He remarked that while the university has met its official targets, there remains a need to *"move beyond them and expand the use of Hindi and other Indian languages in higher education at every level."*
Additionally, the university will provide specialised training in Hindi shorthand for newly recruited stenographers and time-bound instruction in Hindi typing and word processing for new typists, further embedding Hindi into daily administrative functions.
