IIT Indore is taking significant steps to establish Hindi as a functional language for scientific and technological learning in India's higher education sector. Through the Abhyuday-3 National Technical Hindi Seminar, jointly organized with IIT Jodhpur and CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication and Policy Research, the institute is working to remove linguistic barriers in technical education.
The initiative includes practical measures such as delivering select first-year lectures in Hindi, compiling research abstracts according to official language standards, and encouraging classroom discussions in Hindi for explaining scientific concepts. IIT-I director Suhas Joshi emphasized that this effort aligns with the national vision of connecting knowledge with vernacular languages while reinforcing India's linguistic diversity.
A major outcome of the seminar was the release of Smarika, a compilation of 26 peer-reviewed research papers written entirely in Hindi, covering science, engineering, digital technology, and innovation. Faculty members highlight that this approach particularly benefits students from Hindi medium backgrounds by improving conceptual clarity and widening access to knowledge.
