The Maharashtra government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish Maharashtra Bhavan and the "Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Global Marathi Language Center" in London. The agreement, signed between the Marathi Language Department, Maharashtra State Marathi Development Institute, and Maharashtra Mandal in London, involves the purchase of a building to house both facilities.
State Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced the initiative, which was formalized in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Marathi Language Minister Uday Samant. The centre is designed to serve as a cultural and linguistic hub for Marathi speakers and the Indian diaspora in the United Kingdom.
The proposed centre will host cultural programmes, language learning activities, and literary events aimed at preserving and promoting Marathi language internationally. Officials envision the facility as a key resource for strengthening connections between global Marathi-speaking communities and encouraging language preservation among younger generations living abroad. This initiative represents Maharashtra's commitment to expanding the international reach of its language and cultural heritage.
