The Odia Language, Literature and Culture Department organized the first "Odisha Utsav" in Kolkata at the National Library auditorium, marking a significant initiative to engage with the Odia diaspora community.
Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, addressing the gathering, emphasized that Non-Resident Odias serve as "cultural ambassadors" of Odisha, playing a vital role in promoting the state's art, literature, and traditions globally. He noted their emotional and cultural connection remains strong despite living outside the state, and their contribution will be crucial for "Viksit Odisha-2036".
The festival featured vibrant cultural performances including Odissi, Chhau, Ghumura, Dhemsa, and Sambalpuri dance forms, alongside exhibitions of traditional cuisine, handloom, and handicraft products. Distinguished Odia writers and community members from the diaspora were felicitated during the event.
The Minister highlighted that the Directorate of Odisha Paribar actively supports Odias living outside the state, reaffirming the government's commitment to their welfare and development.
