At the launch of *Vaiko in Parliament* in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, made a strong case for India's linguistic diversity. He asserted that every Indian state should have constitutional and cultural rights to maintain its own language, history, and traditions.
Gandhi emphasized that India's strength lies in its diversity rather than in imposing one language or culture. He criticized what he described as attempts by "ignorant people" who fail to understand Tamil, Marathi, Bengali, or Malayalam-speaking communities and seek to promote a singular historical narrative.
The Congress leader framed the issue as part of a larger ideological battle over India's identity, claiming that some groups associated with the RSS promote only one version of history while disregarding the country's rich regional heritage. He expressed confidence that India would never accept suppression of its various languages, traditions, and histories.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over language policies and regional identity in India's federal structure, particularly in southern states where Hindi promotion has sometimes sparked political opposition.
