The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit in Kalady has announced plans for significant expansion and modernization of its Kanakadhara Museum, according to university registrar Mothy George. The initiative will focus on preserving the institution's murals and heritage assets while systematically documenting its historical and cultural significance.
Central to this expansion is the creation of a dedicated Language Museum that will showcase the evolution and distinctive features of Sanskrit alongside other important Indian languages, highlighting India's rich linguistic heritage and its contemporary relevance.
The enhanced Kanakadhara Museum will feature new specialized sections focusing on the life and philosophy of Adi Shankaracharya, traditional Kerala art forms, and significant aspects of Kerala's history. Additionally, a special gallery dedicated to the *history, mythology and cultural life of Kalady* has been proposed.
These developments aim to increase the museum's value for academic research, cultural preservation, and public engagement - making it an important resource for scholars and visitors interested in India's linguistic and cultural traditions.
