The international book fair in Chennai has emerged as a significant platform for linguistic exchange and cultural dissemination. A total of 1,830 Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were inked during the event, reflecting strong interest in cross-language literary translation.
The data reveals a striking emphasis on sharing Tamil literature with global audiences. Among the agreements, 1,273 MoUs targeted translations from Tamil into other languages, demonstrating robust international demand for Tamil works. Concurrently, 260 MoUs were dedicated to bringing literature from other languages into Tamil, enriching the language's literary landscape.
Additionally, 297 MoUs facilitated translation partnerships between other languages, underscoring the fair's role as a broader hub for multilingual literary exchange. These figures highlight Chennai's position as a vital center for promoting Indian languages and fostering cultural connections across linguistic boundaries.
