The Urdu Development Organisation has formally written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting the immediate constitution of the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL) governing body. According to Dr Syed Ahmad Khan, the organisation's National President, the prolonged absence of proper leadership has significantly weakened NCPUL's operational capacity and delayed critical language promotion initiatives.
Dr Khan emphasized Urdu's deep historical and cultural roots in India, noting its widespread acceptance across diverse communities as a language of harmony and shared heritage. He stressed that NCPUL, established under the Ministry of Education specifically to promote Urdu nationally, has been unable to function at full capacity due to the three-year delay in appointing a Vice-Chairperson and constituting the council's body.
The organisation has demanded urgent reconstitution of NCPUL's governing structure to restore administrative functionality and accelerate ongoing and proposed language promotion programmes. Dr Khan appealed directly to the Prime Minister to prioritize this matter in the public interest, expressing hope that the government will take prompt action to revive the council's essential work.
