The Delhi Government has announced a landmark initiative to host the national capital's first Bhojpuri Conference, recognizing the language's significance and the city's cultural diversity. The conference will bring together international scholars, diplomats, and dignitaries, particularly from Bhojpuri-speaking communities in Mauritius and Fiji.
Delhi's Art, Culture and Language Minister Kapil Mishra convened meetings with heads of major cultural institutions to coordinate a comprehensive year-long cultural calendar. Beyond the Bhojpuri Conference, the government has planned poetry recitations through the Hindi Academy, a mushaira by the Urdu Academy, and a national-level painting competition featuring 75 artists at Kartavya Path.
The initiative extends to celebrating traditions like Chhath Puja and Diwali, marking Guru Tegh Bahadur's 350th martyrdom anniversary, and organizing a Bhakti Utsav focused on devotional traditions. Minister Mishra emphasized that these programmes aim to preserve heritage while ensuring younger generations remain connected to their cultural roots. The government has also prioritized transparent fund allocation and library improvements to create student-friendly spaces.
