The Bishnupriya Manipuri community in Tripura celebrated its first official Language Day on Friday, nearly three decades after receiving recognition. Organized by the Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahasabha and the Department of Kokborok and Other Minority Languages, the historic event at Mukta Dhara Auditorium featured a traditional rally, unveiling of seven books by emerging writers, and cultural performances.
Minister Tinku Roy, the chief guest, paid tribute to *Swahid Sudeshna Sinha*, who sacrificed her life during the language movement. He emphasized that the celebration reinforces the need to protect and promote the language for future generations, strengthening the foundation of cultural heritage and identity.
Dr. Asukh Sinha and community leaders stressed the urgent need for preservation through education, literary activities, and cultural awareness programs. The successful observance marks a significant step toward revitalizing linguistic preservation efforts in Tripura and enriching India's linguistic diversity. The event concluded with traditional music and dance performances showcasing the community's vibrant cultural customs.
