Google has expanded its Gemini AI assistant in Chrome to India, making it one of the first markets outside the US to receive the feature. The AI-powered assistant appears as a side panel in the browser and can answer questions about webpages by analyzing content, drawing from its database, and searching the internet.

A significant aspect of the India launch is the addition of support for eight Indian languages: Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu, and Tamil. This multilingual capability enables users across India to interact with the AI assistant in their preferred language.

The feature is built on Google's "Gemini 3.1" AI model and is available on desktop and iOS platforms. It includes "Nano Banana 2" support for image editing and generation directly within the side panel. However, the Auto Browse feature, which allows the AI to control the browser autonomously, is not included in the Indian release. Google emphasized that new security features have been added to protect users from risks such as prompt injections.
