The Karnataka government has established a Havyaka Language Academy, a move welcomed by Congress leaders and members of the Havyaka-speaking community as crucial for preserving linguistic diversity. Havyaka is a socio-linguistic dialect of Kannada with distinct cultural and historical significance, spoken by over six lakh people across Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Udupi, Kodagu, and Kasaragod districts.

Community representatives emphasized that India's cultural strength lies in its diversity of languages, cuisines, and traditions. They noted that dialects play a vital role in strengthening communication and cultural bonding within communities while serving as effective mediums for expressing social ideas and traditions. In an era where smaller cultural traditions risk being overshadowed by dominant influences, language academies provide crucial platforms for communities to actively engage with their linguistic heritage.

Community members thanked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, and Kannada and Culture Minister Shivraj Tangadagi for the initiative, which will promote the language, encourage cultural research, and help future generations preserve the Havyaka linguistic tradition.
