The Gujarat government has digitized approximately 20 high-demand citizen services across five key departments under the *Sugam Digital Gujarat Initiative*, led by the Department of Science and Technology. This addresses recommendations from the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Committee (GARC) and aims to deliver faceless, cashless, and paperless public services.
The initiative handles around 87 lakh of the 1.20 crore annual applications received through the Digital Gujarat platform. Services include caste, income, non-creamy layer, and EWS certificates, along with ration card-related services from departments including Social Justice and Empowerment, Revenue, Legal, Food and Civil Supplies, and Tribal Development.
The platform integrates modern technologies such as Aadhaar-based authentication, API-driven verification, DigiLocker, eSign facility, and UPI-based payments. Certificates will feature QR codes, and some services will be accessible via WhatsApp. Notably, the government plans to expand digital services further, including the development of Gujarati language AI models to enhance inclusivity and accessibility for local populations.
