The Odisha government has announced a significant increase in financial support for traditional artists through the Mukhyamantri Kalakar Sahayata Yojana. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi made the announcement while addressing the 48th State-level Pala Sammilani in Keonjhar on December 28.
Under the revised structure, artists aged between 40 and 80 years will now receive Rs 3,000 monthly, up from Rs 2,000. For artists above 80 years, the allowance has increased from Rs 2,500 to Rs 3,500. This enhancement will affect 47,704 eligible beneficiaries across the state.
The Chief Minister emphasized that this decision reflects the government's recognition of artists' contributions to preserving and promoting Odia language, culture, and traditional art forms. The scheme targets registered traditional artists, including folk performers and classical practitioners who rely primarily on cultural practices for their livelihood. The revised allowance will take effect following an official government notification.
